A Biweekly Progress Report is being sent home explaining the progress of your child. Please sign and make comments on the report. Your comments are welcomed. I appreciate your helping your child get in the habit of doing the homework. Thank you for taking an active role in helping your child with his homework each night. The homework includes a reading log. Please make certain that your child reads, at least, 20 minutes each day. Non-fiction selections should be included for your child to read.
We use the Houghton/Mifflin Reading curriculum at our school. We are doing more read alouds, shared reading and independent reading this year. We also, work very diligently on learning to write effectively.
Our students are assessed each week on vocabulary, spelling and reading comprehension.
Attendance is extremely important. Please, call the school the morning of any absence. A signed note is required explaining the reason for the absence. Also, be aware , that if your child is more than 30 minutes tardy, he or she will be counted as a half day absent. If your child has perfect attendance, excellent behavior, or outstanding academic achievement, he/she will earn an award to be presented at the trimester awards assemblies.
I would like for you to check your child’s backpacks daily. Many notices are sent home during the week and your child’s completed work is taken home in the backpack. Be sure to review with your child the fact that no toys or candy is to be brought to school.
